Sell your Shopify store's products in chats
Your assistant answers shoppers from your Shopify catalog and, when they want to buy, sends a link to your store's checkout with the right items already in the cart.
What it does
- What you'll have — An assistant that knows your Shopify products, variants, prices and stock, answers shoppers on your website, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram and other channels, and sends a checkout link when someone is ready to buy.
- What you need — A Shopify store and a MyChatBot account with a Sales plan or an active free trial. No Shopify app and no API keys: MyChatBot reads the same public product data your storefront shows to shoppers, plus the store currency.
- Time — About 15 minutes, plus indexing in the background. Connected through Claude, a new store starts with a fast start: the first 250 products are searchable within a couple of minutes.
Connect your store
In the dashboard
Open Knowledge Base (app.mychatbot.app/knowledge-base), pick the knowledge base your assistant uses, and Connect a Product Feed.
In Product Feed URL, paste your store address, for example
https://yourstore.com.https://yourstore.com/products.jsonworks too. To sell one collection only, usehttps://yourstore.com/collections/<handle>/products.json.Pick the Feed language of your product descriptions, keep Enable auto-update on, and click Connect.
When indexing finishes, set the card's Refresh period — see Keep prices and stock fresh.
Tell the assistant how to sell, in its instructions:
When a shopper asks about a product, search the catalog and answer with the price, the available sizes and colors, and the product link. When they want to buy, send a checkout link for the exact variant and quantity.
In the assistant's Test dialog, ask for a product, then say you want to buy it. Open the link and check the cart.
In Claude, with the MyChatBot connector
Add MyChatBot as a custom connector in the Claude app (how), then ask in plain words. Claude proposes the changes and waits for your approval before it creates anything. For example:
text
Set up an assistant that sells my Shopify store https://yourstore.com in my Instagram DMs and on my website. Keep prices and stock updated daily.text
Connect my Shopify store yourstore.com to my existing sales assistant, then run a test chat where a shopper picks a product and asks for a checkout link.text
Use only my summer collection as the catalog: https://yourstore.com/collections/summer/products.jsonFor a Shopify store, Claude uses the connector's Connect Shopify store tool (connect_shopify_store):
- It checks the store first and tells you the shop name and currency. If the store is password-protected, blocks its public catalog, or isn't a Shopify store, it says so in plain words and creates nothing.
- It imports the catalog with a fast start and a daily re-sync, and names the feed after the shop.
Pick the knowledge base of the assistant that should sell
The catalog joins the knowledge base Claude names, and every assistant on your account that has no knowledge base yet is attached to it as well. If you have several assistants, tell Claude which one should sell the store's products, so the catalog goes into that assistant's knowledge base. Claude's reply lists every assistant that was attached.
In Claude Code or Codex, the MyChatBot plugin runs the same workflow with the standard Product Feed tool, also with a fast start.
When you sign up through Claude
If you're new to MyChatBot, the sign-in window asks for your website after you confirm your email. When that website is a Shopify store, MyChatBot says Found your Shopify store and builds your first assistant from your catalog: the first 250 products right away, the rest in the background. It then runs a private test purchase and shows you the real checkout link the assistant created on your store, so you can open it and see the cart. Arriving from try.mychatbot.app/shopify opens this Shopify path directly.
Fast start
A store connected through Claude, or through the plugin with the fast_start option of create_product_feed_integration, is indexed in two steps: the first 250 products become searchable within a couple of minutes, and the rest of the catalog syncs right after. You can start testing while the rest arrives. A feed added in the dashboard is indexed in one pass.
What syncs and what doesn't
| Synced | Not synced |
|---|---|
| Products: title, description, type, vendor (brand), tags | Orders and order status |
| Every variant: options such as size and color, price, compare-at (sale) price, in stock or sold out, SKU | Customers |
| Images and product links | Discounts |
| The store currency | Inventory quantities (only in stock or sold out) |
| Subscriptions and selling plans |
Each product is one catalog entry with its variants inside it, so a shirt in ten sizes counts as one product toward your plan's catalog capacity. If your account has a product limit and the store has more products than fit, MyChatBot indexes as many as fit, in whole pages of 250 products, instead of failing, and the feed notes that the catalog was cut short.
Checkout links
Assistants that use a Shopify feed get the create_checkout_link tool automatically. When a shopper wants to buy, the assistant sends a link on your store's address that opens your Shopify checkout with the chosen items, variants and quantities already in the cart. The shopper pays in your Shopify checkout as usual.
- Sizes and colors — When a product comes in several variants, the assistant asks which one the shopper wants before it creates the link. It never picks one for them.
- Discount codes — The assistant can add a discount code to the link, but only a code you gave it, for example in its instructions: "If a first-time buyer asks for a discount, offer the code WELCOME10." Shopify checks the code at checkout.
- More than one store — If an assistant uses catalogs from two Shopify stores and a shopper picks items from both, the assistant sends one checkout link per store, and the shopper pays at each store separately. With one store, nothing changes.
- Orders from chats — Orders placed through these links carry the referral code
mychatbot. In Shopify admin, open an order and look at its Conversion summary. - Every channel — Links work wherever the assistant runs: website widget, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram and other channels.
Keep prices and stock fresh
The assistant answers from the last sync, not live from your store. For a live store, keep Enable auto-update on and set the feed card's Refresh period to Every 6 hours or Once a day. A daily refresh fits most stores within the update volume your plan includes — see Catalog capacity & pricing. After a large change, use Refresh Data in the card menu (⋮) instead of waiting.
Through the MyChatBot connector or plugin, the same setting is the autoupdate_interval_hours option (1, 3, 6, 12 or 24). Connect Shopify store sets a daily re-sync unless you ask for another period.
Use it with Shopify's connector for Claude
Shopify's official connector for Claude lets Claude manage your store: products, inventory and orders. The MyChatBot connector builds the assistant that sells those products in chats. They do different jobs, and you can add both to Claude and use them in one conversation — for example, add a product with Shopify's connector, then ask MyChatBot to run a test chat about it after the next sync.
Limitations and troubleshooting
- The store has a password page. A password-protected store can't be read. Remove the password when the store opens, or use a Google Shopping feed app's URL meanwhile.
- Your storefront isn't served by Shopify at that address. Stores with a headless storefront (a custom site in front of Shopify) can't be read at their public address. Paste the store's
yourstore.myshopify.comaddress instead. - The store still can't be read. Use the feed URL from a Google Shopping feed app instead; the catalog and search work the same, but without checkout links.
- An item shows as sold out at checkout. Stock changed after the last sync. A shorter refresh period narrows the gap.
- Subscription products. Checkout links don't support subscriptions (selling plans). Have the assistant share the product link for those instead.
- Order status questions. Shopify orders aren't synced, so the assistant can't look them up. Tell it in its instructions where shoppers can check an order.
- The assistant doesn't send a link. Check that the first sync finished, that the Shopify feed is in the knowledge base this assistant uses, and that its instructions ask for a checkout link when a shopper wants to buy.
