Connecting Your Instagram Account
This guide explains how to connect an Instagram account to your MyChatbot agent.
Overview
Instagram integration allows your agent to handle direct messages, comments, and other interactions on your Instagram business account. This provides a seamless customer service experience on one of the most popular social media platforms.
Step-by-Step Connection Process
- Navigate to the Channels tab in your MyChatbot dashboard
- Select the agent you want to connect to Instagram
- Click on the Instagram tab
- Click on the Connect Instagram button
Authentication Process
When you click the Connect Instagram button, you'll be redirected to the Meta (Facebook) authorization page where you need to:
- Select your business
- Select your Instagram/Facebook page
- Select your Instagram account
- Authorize the necessary permissions
After completing these steps, you'll be redirected back to the MyChatbot dashboard where your connected Instagram account will be displayed.
Configuration Options
Once connected, you can configure several important settings:
Ignore Reactions
Toggle this option to determine whether your agent should respond to:
- Likes on your posts
- Reactions to your comments
- Emoji reactions
Enabling this will prevent your agent from responding to these types of interactions.
Ignoring Comments
Toggle this option to completely ignore all comments on your posts. When enabled:
- Your agent will not respond to any comments
- No quick replies will be sent
- No private replies will be initiated
- Comments will be completely ignored by the system
This is useful when you want to disable all comment-based interactions while keeping other Instagram features active.
Story Mentions
Toggle this option to control whether your agent responds to reactions on your Instagram stories. This can be useful to prevent overwhelming your agent with numerous story reactions.
Enable Follower Check
When enabled, this feature provides your agent with a special tool called check_instagram_follower
that allows the agent to verify if a user follows your Instagram page.
- The agent can use this tool to check follower status during conversations
- How and when to use this tool should be defined in your main agent instructions
- This enables personalized interactions based on follower status
- Useful for providing different responses to followers vs non-followers
Quick Comment Reply
This feature enables the "private reply" functionality:
- When someone leaves a comment on your post, your agent can reach out to them via Direct Message
- If you leave this field blank, no comments will be made
- The agent will maintain context about which post the comment was related to
- The person will receive a message request that they can accept to start a conversation
Voice Messages
If users send voice messages, you can configure:
- Which voice will be used to reply
- Whether voice replies are enabled
Reply Delay
Set the delay in seconds between when a message is received and when your agent responds.
Limitations
Please note the following limitations when using Instagram integration:
- Video File Size: Video files larger than 25MB cannot be uploaded directly through the platform. Instead, they will be shared as a link to the video file.
- File Upload Restrictions: Subject to Instagram's file size and format limitations
- Rate Limiting: Instagram may impose rate limits on automated responses
- Authentication: May require periodic re-authentication when tokens expire
- Content Compliance: All automated responses must comply with Instagram's terms of service and community guidelines
